The USS Pathfinder, NCC-1702-A, is a Nova class science vessel. Construction began on her a short two months before the Dominion War. With the coming of the Dominion war, the ships construction was suspended in favor of warship classes.

When the Dominion War ended, Construction on the Pathfinder was resumed. Less then a year later she flew out of the drydock for the first time. Her first commander was Captain Yoris Halien. He served with the Pathfinder for only about a year before he was transfered to a larger vessel. Then Lt. Jonathan Tallon was promoted to Lt. Commander and given command of the Pathfinder.
